Good Shepherd Horse Rescue and Learning Center is developing an accessible restroom and climate-controlled space to better serve our volunteers, visitors, and program participants. This project will provide a clean, safe, and comfortable environment that is essential for accommodating individuals of all ages and abilities, including those with mobility challenges. The climate-controlled space will offer much-needed relief from extreme weather conditions, making year-round participation in our programs more welcoming and inclusive. This improvement reflects our commitment to accessibility, community hospitality, and creating a supportive atmosphere for all who come to learn, volunteer, and connect with our rescued horses.

The covered arena at Good Shepherd Horse Rescue and Learning Center will be a 60x100-foot steel structure designed to provide a shaded, weather-protected space for year-round horse training, rehabilitation, and educational programs. This arena will allow staff, volunteers, and participants to work safely with horses regardless of extreme heat or inclement weather, ensuring consistency in care and instruction. The open-sided design will offer excellent ventilation, while the quality footing will support both groundwork and riding activities. As part of the organization’s broader development plan, the covered arena will be located adjacent to a future classroom and viewing area, making it a central hub for clinics, equine-assisted learning, and community events that align with Good Shepherd’s mission to rescue, restore, and educate through the healing power of horses.

The casita project at Good Shepherd Horse Rescue and Learning Center involves the construction of a two-story, 1,100-square-foot dwelling to provide essential on-site housing for a caretaker. With 550 square feet on each floor, the casita will include a living area, bathroom, and kitchenette downstairs, with the upper level designated for sleeping quarters, an office, storage, or a combination of these functions. This structure will be located near the back of the property to ensure privacy while maintaining close proximity to the horses and core operations. The addition of the casita will allow for 24/7 animal care, emergency response, and enhanced property oversight—critical elements as the rescue continues to grow and serve more horses and community members. The project will also enable the removal of a non-functional mobile home, freeing up space for additional infrastructure, including new arenas and a two-story classroom building.

Good Shepherd Horse Rescue and Learning Center is hoping to construct a two-story metal building to serve as a central hub for education, community engagement, and future growth. The ground floor will feature large viewing windows overlooking the covered arena, allowing visitors and volunteers to observe clinics and training sessions while also serving as a classroom for equine education, including partnerships with equine schools. This versatile space will host volunteer trainings, workshops, and fundraising events such as dances and appreciation gatherings. The second floor is designed for future use as caretaker housing, office space, and storage, ensuring the facility can grow alongside the expanding needs of the organization.  The Summer Horse Retreat and Family Camp is an exciting new initiative by Good Shepherd Horse Rescue and Learning Center designed to provide rescued horses—and the families who love them—a seasonal escape to the cooler elevations of Arizona. Set on 20 acres of serene land equipped with a well, power, and septic system, the retreat will feature a staff casita, a bunkhouse for families, shaded stalls, and arenas for horse care and programming. This peaceful setting will offer horses relief from the desert heat while serving as a place of healing, learning, and connection for individuals and families. Campers will enjoy hands-on horsemanship, nature-based activities, and time to grow together through equine-assisted experiences, creating lasting memories and deeper understanding of the horse-human bond.
